Five differences in
Digital Learning Experience between Western Pacific University and Vanimo Don
Bosco Secondary School.
Digital learning has become a key factor of education in
today’s world. However, each school has its own unique approach to using
technology. Western Pacific University and Vanimo Don Bosco Secondary School have
different digital learning experiences. Digital learning is now seen as very
important for today’s education (UNESCO, 2021). This essay is going to examine
the five differences in digital learning experience between WPU and Don Bosco
Vanimo. These five differences are digital infrastructure, learning model,
scope of technology, targeted approach and curriculum focus.
The main distinction
lies in digital infrastructure. WPU is designed as a digital-first university,
so it comes with first-class internet, up-to-date computers, and smart
classroom. Students really depend on technology for their studies (Western
Pacific University, n. d.). Vanimo Don Bosco Secondary is still working on its
digital setup. It may have limited computers and internet access, so students
do not use technology as often. This shows the barriers that lots of developing
organizations are dealing with (World Bank, 2022).
Secondly, the learning model. At WPU, most teaching is done
with computers, and students learn using online stuff, videos, and digital
tools. On the flip side, Vanimo Don Bosco puts more attention on fundamental
digital skills. Students learn to use computers, but the majority of their
education still takes place in the old-school classroom setting. This
highlights the contrast between high technology in digital learning and basic
ICT education (Commonwealth of Learning, 2020).
Thirdly, the scope of technology that is used. WPU provides
cutting-edge digital learning opportunities, including advanced courses in
information technology, computer systems, and database management. It equips
students with the skills needed for successful careers in the technology
industry. Compared to Vanimo Don Bosco, they are just teaching the basics like
typing, using easy software, and finding stuff online (Don Bosco Technical
Schools, n. d.).
Furthermore, the targeted approach which they focus more on
individual students. WPU caters to university students gearing up for their
future in professional and technical fields. So, digital learning is way ahead
and super focused on specific areas. Vanimo Don Bosco Secondary caters to
secondary school students and community learners, equipping them with essential
knowledge and skills for daily life. This gap shows how different education
levels can shape digital learning design (UNESCO, 2021).
Lastly but not the least, is to consider what the curriculum
is all about. At Western Pacific University, digital learning is woven into
every subject. Courses like “Learning in a Digital Age” are seamlessly
integrated into the curriculum, so students get to use technology across all
areas of study (Western Pacific University, n. d.). Contrary to that, Vanimo
Don Bosco offers digital literacy as a separate subject, meaning students only
learn about technology in specific periods.
To wrap it up, although both schools embrace digital
learning, WPU gives more comprehensive digital learning, while Vanimo Don Bosco
concentrates on fundamental digital skills and progression. These differences
show how educational level and resources influence the way technology is used
in learning.
